HOSTA LIST 2008 

This is our current price list for our one-gallon AND quart size pot hosta.  The price for quart pots is noted with the initials QT. The great majority of our gallon size hosta are multi-crown.  Our hosta are sold per pot, not by crowns per pot.  You get a great bargain by ordering, or shopping early! The fullest pots sell the quickest. If you order we will pick the fullest pots at the time ordered. We will gladly set these aside for you until you are ready to pick them up.

We have added more 2 gallon size plants to our inventory. You get a large amount of division at a better value with the 2 gallon size. These can be divided in the Fall or Spring and you have an abundant amount of plants as opposed to the 1 gallon, and the 2 gallon is usually not double the 1 gallon price.

This price list is current as of April 14, 2008.  Some varieties are in limited supply, and some will sell out quickly, so purchasing early is a good idea.

The physical size of cultivars is a general guideline. All varieties will perform uniquely to the site in which they are planted. Ample nutrients and water will increase overall size and vigor and color. The letter indicated after the dimensions are used to value the overall look of the plant.

S=small.  M=medium. L=large. VL=very large. G=giant.

The color will vary in every garden to a degree. A general guideline for siting your plants is that green hosta generally will tolerate sun, but appreciate some afternoon shade, or filtered shade throughout the day. Green and white leaf varieties will respond with a bit more shading. Typically, golden leaf hosta will respond well with more sun throughout the day. Some golden leaf hosta will tolerate a great deal of sun, as long as they are not stressed by drought.  Blue leaf hosta will in general want filtered shade for the entire day. These are all general guidelines, and experimenting with siting will be be your best gardening tool. Remember, hostas move well, and if one site doesn’t work…..they can be rearranged in the Spring and/or Fall.

We can not stress the importance of watering when the weather turns dry. A fully hydrated plant will survive the stresses of heat, and the occasional insect, as well as being attractive.  As with any plant, hosta respond quickly and happily to an early Spring application of fertilize. We feed our hosta with our own house brand of Kridler Special fertilize. This has a slow release nitrogen, plus a blend of micro and macro nutrients. One application in the early Spring will feed your hosta for the entire season.  We try and apply this by mid April before the plants emerge from the ground. We do carry a 50 pound retail size of Kridler Special Blend for sale at the nursery. It is economical, safe, long lasting…and, it WORKS!! You can use it on all shrubs, perennials, trees in the garden.
