The 'Little House'

The 'Little House'

Envision a secluded, private cottage all to yourself…a soft rain beating down on a tin roof, owls hooting, and deer walking past your window. Or, a bright full Moon, shining down thru the trees and into your window as you nestle into bed. This is a small part of what you will find at The Little House at Kridler Gardens. Nestled within a mature woods and situated on the grounds of a landscaped arboretum sits an unexpected sanctuary. You can fish in one of our ponds...(throw back only!), hike, bird watch, sit by a campfire, read or whatever you like to spend time doing or not doing. The grounds surrounding the cabin are planted with native wildflowers, flowering trees and shrubs, rare and unusual plants are all around you.

At night you can sit around the fire pit, and feel completely secluded from the rest of the world. You really can’t hear much of the outside world from where you will be sitting. No neighbors, no noise. just the serene silence of a rural hideout.

The Little House is a timber frame structure that has a rustic, yet upscale luxury feel. As you enter the front door you will find a large open room with a ceiling rising up 22 feet. At one end there is a sitting area and a gas log fireplace. At the other end a compact, but well appointed kitchen with microwave, stove, refrigerator is combined with the dining area. A Victorian style window seat is sited at the end of the dining area. This window seat has luxurious, down filled custom made cushions and pillows to invite a quiet spot to watch nature move along. There are 3 ceiling fans and 20 windows to keep you cool, plus you are located in a tall, full shaded and mature woods. Even on a hot day, the cabin is cool.

There is one bedroom with a queen size bed cuddling 800 count sheets, antique, owners- heirloom quilts, and comforters sure to guarantee sweet dreams.  A fireplace sits in the wall at the foot of the bed. An antique bed canopy with custom made fabric drapes add a bit of “over the top’’ charm.  The rear door from the bedroom leads to a private, screened porch.

The bathroom is well appointed with a towel warmer, a whirlpool tub and shower, oversize towels (and lots of them),  sumptuous robes, and generous closet space with ironing board/iron and other ‘necessaries’ to make your stay as comfortable as when you are at home. Spare items that you forgot to pack are probably in stock in the bathroom closet.

Generous thought and time and effort went into furnishing the cottage. Throughout the rooms you will find some of the owner’s family heirlooms, some of their favorite overruns from their too cramped house, and other items and touches showing the good will and hospitality offered to the guests.  Above all of these things, we feel that the guests are the most important element in the cabin. We believe that you will find everything you need right at hand to make your stay most comfortable. We firmly believe that you will be content and relaxed during your stay, and impressed with your accommodations.

The cabin will be stocked before your arrival with appropriate breakfast foods and beverages. We will have a wide assortment of cereals, muffins, fruits, yogurt and condiments. in the freezer you will find an assortment of breakfast casseroles. The Cookbook in the kitchen will tell you the ingredients and how to prepare them.  Of course, you are free to bring along whatever foods and beverages that you want. If special requests for fresh flowers, special drinks, or other touches are wanted we will try and oblige these requests if enough time is allowed. The price for this will be settled before arrival.  If you want a simple burger on the grill, we have a grill outside the cabin. If you want more adventurous fare, the kitchen is there for your full indulgence.  Within a few miles of the cabin you will also find many places to dine. These places range from basic tavern food, to 4 star gourmet. We can supply you with the names and phone numbers for you to make arrangements on your own.
